OrthoIndy is excited to announce that Dr. Timothy Hupfer, an OrthoIndy sports medicine physician and team physician for the Indiana Pacers, was named NBA Team Physician of the Year by the National Basketball Athletic Trainers Association (NBATA).
NBATA is a professional organization of highly skilled certified athletic trainers who provide specialized health care and critical support services to the athletes and organizations of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and NBA G League.
“OrthoIndy is proud to see Dr. Hupfer accept this award and continue to succeed in his efforts of helping those who are injured on the court,” said Timothy Dicke, MD, president and CEO of OrthoIndy. “We are proud to have physicians who provide the highest quality and comprehensive care to athletes and our patients.”
The award was announced and presented this past weekend to Dr. Hupfer at the NBA Combine in Chicago.
Dr. Hupfer has served as the team physician for the Indiana Pacers for over 15 years. As the team physician, his role is to evaluate players during the week and is on the sidelines during games to take care of injuries. During the game, he evaluates players who may have sustained injuries to determine whether they can safely get back in action. Post-game, Dr. Hupfer may provide further evaluations to help plan the players’ treatments and rehabilitation for the week.
“It is such an honor to receive this award,” said Dr. Hupfer. “It wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Pacers’ ownership, management and medical staff.”
