The two leading orthopedic practices aim to enhance specialized orthopedic care across Central Indiana and beyond
INDIANAPOLIS – OrthoIndy and Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center, two of Indiana’s leading orthopedic practices, have signed a definitive letter of intent for the purpose of aligning their two practices. The new framework aims to combine the strengths of both practices and enhance their commitment to delivering unparalleled orthopedic care to the communities they serve while continuing to be national leaders in orthopedic research and the education and training of the next generation of orthopedic specialists.
For decades, OrthoIndy has been a leader in bone, joint, spine and muscle care, while Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center has earned a reputation as one of the most respected providers of upper extremity care, specializing in conditions and injuries related to the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. The practices share a dedication to patient-centered care, education and medical advancements that provide the best possible patient outcomes.
“This alignment works to ensure that we will continue to serve the community’s orthopedic needs as an independent physician practice, which we believe is vital to Indiana’s healthcare ecosystem,” said John Ryan, CEO of OrthoIndy. “In a world where we more often read headlines about health systems acquiring physician practices or physician practices selling to private equity, we believe that now more than ever independent physician practices are the key to delivering the highest quality, reasonably-priced care to the communities we serve.”
Through the alignment, OrthoIndy and Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center will share operational resources to serve patients with the highest level of clinical expertise and experience, as well as an expanded geographic footprint. With OrthoIndy’s 12 locations in eight Central Indiana cities and Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center’s 10 locations across nine communities, patients are sure to receive the best possible treatment from a broad network of orthopedic specialists close to home.
“This alignment marks an exciting new chapter for Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center,” said Tom Kaplan, MD, managing partner of Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center. “In aligning with OrthoIndy, we aim to seize the opportunity for further growth while maintaining our focus on what matters most – providing exceptional patient-centric orthopedic care that includes the tools to regain mobility and enables the ability to live pain-free.”
While OrthoIndy and Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center will be aligned moving forward, patients can rest assured that there will be no immediate changes to current scheduling practices, physician availability or insurance processes. Integration will occur over time so that it does not disrupt patient care. The two groups expect to complete their alignment in the first half of 2025.
