INDIANAPOLIS – The word is out on the 2027 Healthgrades Specialty Excellence Awards, and OrthoIndy Hospital is the only hospital in Indiana named among America’s 50 Best Hospitals for both Outpatient Joint Replacement and Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery Excellence. This marks the fourth consecutive year OrthoIndy Hospital has earned both honors. The hospital is also the only one in Indiana recognized as one of America’s 100 Best for Joint Replacement for six consecutive years.
In addition to these rankings, OrthoIndy Hospital placed among the nation’s top 5% of hospitals for joint replacement, outpatient joint replacement and outpatient orthopedic surgery. OrthoIndy Hospital also earned five-star ratings for five orthopedic services: inpatient and outpatient total knee replacement, inpatient and outpatient total hip replacement, and spinal fusion surgery. While each represents continued recognition for high-quality care, one milestone stands out: OrthoIndy Hospital is Indiana’s longest-running recipient of a five-star rating for total knee replacement, earning the distinction for 20 years in a row (2008-2027).

Unlike rankings based on surveys or reputation, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance using objective clinical outcomes – risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates – across more than 30 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide.
The impact of choosing a high-performing hospital is significant. Healthgrades’ 2027 analysis revealed that if all hospitals performed at the level of five-star rated facilities during the 2023-2025 study period, 227,229 lives could have been saved, and 158,138 complications could have been avoided.*
