Proud Sponsor of Butler Athletics

OrthoIndy News | Sports Injury

THIS POST IS PART OF THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO SPORTS MEDICINE

Whether it’s basketball, cross country, volleyball or soccer Butler University is ready to play. Butler has 18 intercollegiate teams and all but one competes in the Big East conference. Additionally, they have a variety of intramural and club sports and plenty of opportunity to stay involved with athletics.

Because of the wide variety of sports and the number of participants involved, injuries are inevitable. This is why Butler University has Dr. Stephen Kollias, OrthoIndy sports medicine specialist on the sidelines and ready to treat them when they need it most.

The role of the team physician

Dr. Kollias evaluates players during the week and is on the sidelines during some games to take care of injuries. During the game, he evaluates players who may have sustained injuries to determine whether they can safely get back in the action.

Post-game, Dr. Kollias may provide further evaluations to help plan the players’ treatments and rehabilitation for the week. He also takes care of necessary surgeries or referring players to other OrthoIndy physicians as needed.

“Working with student athletes who have been injured is a rewarding experience because of their determination to return to a sport they have so much passion for,” said Dr. Kollias. “A lot of Butler athletes have a lot on their plate with class and their sport commitment; however, they never stop working hard and I appreciate that perseverance in my patients which benefits them in the classroom, the playing field or court, and their lives after sports.”
